CATALYST SHOOT: DEB JOHNSTON
So, for those of us not lucky enough to have met you yet, tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a storyteller, hype woman and passionate strategista. Schooled in the magical arts of marketing and communication, I use my skills to weave confidence, innovation and empowerment into entrepreneurs around the world. I made the leap from Sydney to Los Angeles 8 years ago as the co-founder of Suplove Stand-Up Paddleboards, and I now balance my time consulting startups with CMO.LA, executive coaching with ILA Global and raising three daughters. I am committed to empowering the human spirit through entrepreneurship and watching people flourish, I encourages everyone to explore where in the world they want to make a difference and be courageous in the pursuit of it.
The Catalyst Shoot was a unique experience where we highlighted incredible women and an object that reflected how they #CatalyzeCourage. What was your object and why?

I brought my daughters globe to the catalyze courage shoot. That little globe and seeing our planet as a whole is a powerful reminder for me, that we are all in this together, that it is necessary to remain connected to the global community and to look for the bigger picture. It reminds me of being courageous and moving from Australia to the United States and the journey, both benefits and costs, of immigration. Finally, it links me to my daughters and the future, which keeps me alert to the impact I make now and also to the legacy and future I leave for future generations.
What does “catalyze courage” mean to you?
Catalyzing courage means giving every person the access to their individual greatness - giving them the peace of knowing that they and their ideas are needed, valuable and absolutely worth pursuing.
What would you tell your 17 year old self?
You are ok exactly where you are. You don’t need to rush anywhere, just follow your heart and be courageous in doing so.
What’s one “give” you can offer up to the InHerShoes community reading this?
I’m always happy to jump on a 15 minute call with anyone and I have a really big network and I’m not afraid to use it.
What’s one “ask” you have of the InHerShoes community?
Go and do you, create a badass world of female leaders and entrepreneurs for my daughter to look up to. And on a personal level - I love working with amazing businesses and if they need help with marketing and sales, send them my way.
What would you do if you were 1% more courageous?
I’d start a podcast highlighting the amazing people I come into contact with daily - I just have no idea how to actually do that!! 😂😂
You're incredible! What's the best way for people to contact you or get to know you more?
You can find me on social @debjsuplove and via email firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you could have dinner with anyone (dead or alive) who would it be and why?
I’d want a series of dinner parties! However for the sake of this one bonus question, the first one I’d have would be with Michelle Obama, Oprah, Queen Elizabeth and Stevie Nicks because they are all strong amazing women, packed full of leadership and lessons. Ooooh it would be so much fun!!
