CATALYST SHOOT: AIEDA ABDULHAFIZ
So, for those of us not lucky enough to have met you yet, tell us a little about yourself.
I am a Texas born Ethiopian woman, on a never ending journey of self-discovery. I love to push myself into uncomfortable moments of growth. I truly believe laughter is one of the greatest forms of medicine. One of my sole purposes of life is to impact others, in any way, shape or form that I can.
The Catalyst Shoot was a unique experience where we highlighted incredible women and an object that reflected how they #CatalyzeCourage. What was your object and why?
My object was a photo of my mother. She is the strongest person I know and I aspire to have half the courage, she has had in her lifetime. She left her family by foot when she was only 14 years old to create a better life for her future family. The journey she partook wasn't easy, nor was it safe to say the least. Nothing was guaranteed, yet she push through and made it work. I would not have the life I have today, had she not balled up enough courage to fight for a better life. She is my motivation, my aspiration and my best friend.
What does “catalyze courage” mean to you?
Catalyze Courage means to fight past the storm and focus on the light at the end of that tunnel. To understand the scary moments of life, but choosing to keep going no matter what. Understanding that life won't always be comfortable, but discovering whats on the other side of fear.
What would you tell your 17 year old self?
I would tell my 17 year old self, to speak up without judging yourself. To love yourself first and let your light shine. That failure only existence, if you don't learn from the experience. To be present as much as possible!
What’s one “give” you can offer up to the InHerShoes community reading this?
Let your actions speak just as loud as your voice. Now more than ever, we need to back up our words with actions to make a change.
What’s one “ask” you have of the InHerShoes community?
To really support all the strong women out there. Whether it be through liking or sharing a post, to showing up to an event or summit. We need to be there for each other physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
What would you do if you were 1% more courageous?
I would move somewhere I don't know a lot of people. To see who I could become when I am completely out of my comfort zone.
You're amazing! How can I connect with you?
My Instagram is aiedaabdulhafiz.
BONUS! What would you create if money was not a concern?
I would live in a beach house in Hawaii. Where I could be surrounded by nature and fresh food. I would go around finding new ways to help people everyday and engage in meaningful moments.
