1. Drink a glass of water before you eat
Wellness articles that don’t mention drinking more water are like unicorns, extremely rare and probably don’t exist. Everyone knows that they should stay hydrated, but not many people know HOW to stay hydrated. Pour yourself a glass before each meal and drink away before diving into your food. Not only will you be upping your water intake, but you’ll also be filling your stomach so that you don’t over eat.
2. Eat a piece of fruit with every meal
Sticking with mealtime tips, have a fruit or vegetable with your main course. Your meals will be more nutritionally balanced and you will be less likely to fill up on unhealthy options after pre-gaming with an apple.
3. Change into gym clothes as soon as you get home
Instead of switching into sweats or Pj’s, put on your leggings and a t-shirt. Gym clothes are just as comfortable as lounge wear, but they give you so much more motivation. PJ’s make you want to take a nap. Sporting your favorite active wear will make you want to do something sporty.
4. Schedule your workouts around your shower time
Workout right before your routine shower time. That way you only have to shower once during the day instead of doing your normal shower and a post-gym shower.
5. Bring a friend!
Bringing a friend to the gym kills two birds with one stone. You get to have a social life and squeeze in a workout. If you’re uncomfortable doing your workout, you’ll have a friend with you to boost your confidence. Having a gym buddy also helps to hold you accountable.
6. Invest in cute gym clothes
Fact: everyone is excited to wear cute new clothes. If you look good, you feel good, and your performance level will increase. A new outfit will get you excited to do something active.
7. Park further away from places
Parking at the end of the lot is an easy way to get a few extra steps in. Most of the time it’s also easier to find a spot further away from the entrance.
8. Tell people about your fitness goals
By talking about your healthy lifestyle goals, you create responsibility. Talking the talk will help you to walk the walk.
9. Take a walk while checking emails
Be active while checking and responding to all the notifications on your phone! The treadmill or a stationary bike are both easy ways to get some cardio in while you take care of business.
10. Find something that excites you!
Being healthy doesn’t have to mean going for a run or lifting weights. Try a bunch of different activities and find one that you love! If the gym isn’t your thing, don’t worry. Many schools and local communities have intramural sports for adults.
